Fairfield Horseshoe Contour Map Print
One of the Lake District’s great ridge walks, drawn as a single sweep of contour lines. The Fairfield Horseshoe climbs out of Rydal, over Nab Scar, Heron Pike and Great Rigg to the broad summit of Fairfield, then swings back over Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike and Low Pike to Ambleside. That’s eight Wainwrights in one day, round the head of the Rydal Beck valley.
Every contour is a step up in height, so you can see the whole shape of the round at a glance: the long grassy ridges, the steep drop into Deepdale, and the high plateau at 873 m where the two arms meet. Each summit is marked and named with its height, and, if you choose it, the route is traced as a fine dashed line.
Drawn from real elevation data with surveyed summit heights. Printed to order in six colour styles and three sizes, unframed or in a solid wood frame ready to hang.

About the Fairfield Horseshoe
The horseshoe starts beside Rydal Mount, once William Wordsworth’s home, and climbs steeply onto Nab Scar above Rydal Water. From there the ridge rises steadily to Fairfield, the high point of the round at 873 m, with views across to Helvellyn and down the length of Windermere. The return leg over Hart Crag and Dove Crag is rockier, before the long descent past Low Pike into Ambleside.
It’s a favourite for anyone ticking off the 214 Wainwrights, and a good gift for someone who’s walked it, or keeps saying they will.
